The Knight Sabers

News & Updates

2020-03-01: Hi everyone. It's been a while, but I'm back. I do plan on updating this site again. Also, since the last update, AnimEigo has released the Bubblegum Crisis High-Definition Disctopia Blu-ray with all OVAs on 1 disc. Check out the details over at AnimEigo.

2017-08-13: I noticed on AnimEigo's website that the Bubblegum Crisis Ultimate Edition Blu-ray set has gone out of print (both Basic and Premium versions). They still have the DVD set.

2016-11-21: The Influences page is now up. It's a fun page that lists references and examples from the famous sci-fi movies that influenced BGC. It's currently a work in progress - hope to add more soon!

2016-09-29: Long time no update! I just added a link to the Games page with info on the English translation for the Bubblegum Crash PC-Engine game. I'm also starting a new page that lists similarities between Bubblegum Crisis and famous movies that it drew influence from. Stay tuned! Also, if you have a Bubblegum Crisis website, I would be glad to list it on my Links page. Please feel free to e-mail me the link!

About Bubblegum Crisis

Bubblegum Crisis (BGC) is a Japanese OVA series from the late '80s produced by Youmex and Artmic. The series tells the story of the Knight Sabers, a female mercenary team who battle evil in MegaTokyo 2032, namely rogue Boomers -- synthetic mechs that resemble humans, created by mega-corporation Genom. When Boomers are used as deadly weapons by enemies, the local AD Police Force often cannot handle them alone. Instead, the city's safety depends on the Knight Sabers. With their advanced technology and weaponry, they are MegaTokyo's only hope!
This series is an example of classic cyberpunk anime and still remains very popular even today. The OVA consists of eight episodes and has spawned a number of related series and spin-offs. This website is devoted to the original Bubblegum Crisis which introduced us to that unforgettable, compelling vision of the future, a rocking soundtrack, kinetic mech battles, and those four lively heroines, all under the glowing neon lights of MegaTokyo.
